Guatemala is still recovering from the horrors and injustices of a thirty-six year civil war. During the conflict, hundreds of brutal massacres were carried out, of men, women, and children, and thousands died. Depicted here is a ceremony to commemorate one such massacre of the village of Rio Negro. Guatemalans light candles in a sanctuary on the mountain where the massacre occurred and prayer for their loved ones who died.
