I boarded the El last winter amidst a blizzard to entertain an out-of-town visitor with the sites of the city. She wanted to see the downtown shopping scene, and I obliged despite the weather.

As we entered the station underground, we noticed that half of the people on the platform were in their underwear.

Winter boots, mittens, and their choice of boxers or briefs.

As we boarded the train, more people inside stood casually in their panties reading or chatting with friends.

While they would not disclose why they were doing this, I loved the dedication of this group to make a statement of going sans pants for a cause or a prank.
