Malta is an island quite close to mainland Italy just south of Sicily. The country, officially named the Republic of Malta is a developed country is a tiny but densely populated Mediterranean place with a lot of history. Malta is known for its world heritage sites most prominently the Megalithic Temples, which are the oldest freestanding structures in Europe. The Megalithic Temples are the first landmarks that I would check out in Malta.
A good way to get to Malta is to take a boat from either Italy or Tunis. Malta is also accessible if you get seasick and wish to fly. I think most flights are out of either North Africa or parts of Europe. The airport is called Malta International Airport (MLA).
